“This place just does a lot of things right that makes me a believer,” one new patron of Pho Saigon Pearl begrudgingly admits, saying she’d been determined to find something wrong with the buzzed-about new spot. However, she simply could not. From the bright and convenient location (right next to Harris Teeter) to the stellar customer service and authentic, artfully prepared Vietnamese food, there’s just nothing to complain about.
The egg rolls are crispy and classic, and a great start or complement to a meal at Pho Saigon. For the main course, however, you really have to go with pho. The signature pho special (AKA pho dac biet) features a medley of meats, including the traditional brisket and meatballs, with a broth base that’s both complex and light. The bowl comes topped with a pile of freshly sliced veggies. If you’re still hungry, round out your meal with a banh mi sandwich. The sammies come stuffed inside of crusty halved French baguettes with your choice of meat (the grilled beef has received some special acclaim) and classic accouterments including cilantro and pickled veggies.
